Munich/Egypt 2020
Conceptual Idea / Main Idea
The colourful mythology of ancient egypt and the understanding of life on earth as an ongoing circle of life and death, day and night, light and darkness is the central idea of this lighting concept. Illustrating the path of the god Re, as he travels over the horizon in his bark during the day and through the underworld during the night.
Description of the Lighting Design
The Lighting Design translates the strong pictures full of colour very directly with a wholesome universal white light to level out the lighting experiences. Starting with the daylight when the visitor enters the pyramid he‘s passing the Mamuns Tunnel. Slowly arising over the ascending passage the first strong impression of the Grand Gallery immersed in blue light symbolizing the journey threw the underworld. After reaching the plateau the visitor is experiencing the next moment of purification in the Antechamber with a shower of light from the ceiling. Preparing them for the final step of the journey: The climax of the descending sun in the King‘s Chamber.
Implementation / Details / Application
The Implementation of the lighting concept always follows the outlines of the given situation/ rooms of the pyramid. Only the most important object, the destination of the journey, the lighting obejct displaying the sun is implented as a freestanding lighting object, while all other lighting defices try to be as respectful to the given situation as possible. This strategy underlines the thought of the concept to show the mythology threw a imaginery component that comes from the irratating fact, that the visitor is never fully able to explain where the light comes from. The visitor is so obliged to experience the room under the strange atmosphere created by the light.
